The season of the FRIO is here! What’s a FRIO you ask? It’s a life saver product – insulin life saver… or pretty much any other medication that needs to be kept at an ambient temperature, like eye drops for example. But we’ll go into more detail on this below.

We NEVER travel without our FRIO! And we’re proud to bring you such a great product we’ve sourced, tested, and regularly use at home ourselves. So, if you’re new to FRIO, or not sure whether you need one…don’t fret! Let us help you.

We use our FRIOs for insulin pens/cartridges and insulin vials to keep the temperature regulated within 18-26°C for up to 45hrs, whether we are in hot or cold climates. They are recognised and allowed by airport security.

FRIOs can also be used for other medications such as eye drops , EpiPens, Humira and Enbrel that can be stored at room temperature. For use during travel or just for extra protection on warm days out.

Although they have not been tested for cold weather use, we personally have used them to protect insulin vials in freezing conditions.

The FRIO technology is brilliant for keeping our insulin cool. With their specially developed crystals inside, they're ready to use in minutes. Don't forget to keep your FRIO ventilated when travelling... we usually pop ours in the ventilated compartment of the kitbag. If your compartment doesn't have holes to ventilate then the next best option is to leave it slightly open to allow air circulation.

Depending on which FRIO size you opt for determines the activation time, but the process is still the same! Soak in water, agitate the crystals evenly inside, leave to absorb, remove from the water, and pop your medication inside! Here’s some more detailed instructions.

It’s not a 1 time thing! These save insulin and a little money too! The FRIO Wallet can easily be reactivated in water to plump up again, and again, and again. Just note; each reactivation doesn’t usually need the same amount of time as the first initial one. You don’t want to over do it! So, when reactivating we make sure to keep an eye on it.

Keeping note: After using our FRIO, we'll usually try to find a sunny windowsill to let the wallet fully dry out. It's important, when not using a FRIO, to separate the inner wallet from the outer and make sure its well ventilated and able to dry out before the next use. This then holds the quality of the FRIO and stops damp from setting in.
